My dad has one that's never been fired still has everything in the box, including a box of ammo. I'm trying to talk him into giving it to me for xmas.

If I get it, should I shoot it or store it? Seems to me it would be a crying shame not to shoot it.

Welcome to the forum J. Rules are simple, be nice and join in.

Depends on what you want to do with it. If it's a newer one there's not a lot of value even new in the box. You can put it away and give it to a son or grand son later on and it may have much more value or you can just shoot it and enjoy it and still pass it on. Decisions decisions.

It was bopught new in 1959. Being a 48-year old gun that's never been fired, I'd like to take it to the range at least once. :) I'm going to give my dad a cleaning kit and a couple of boxes of ammo for christmas. That way, if he doesn't give it to me a s a gift, at least I'll get a chance to shoot it. :)

SHOOT IT, SHOOT, SHOOT IT! That's what it was designed for and there's no model 94 like a pre-1964 made 94 except maybe a pre-WWII 94, enjoy it for it's intended purpose then when you're old and grey pass it on to your grandson, he'll love it. Whether you shoot it or not it'll increase in value so go have fun.

I found out tonight that it was actually manufactured in 1957. :)

Yup...fire it up. There are never any U-hauls trailers behind the hearse. Sooner or later, everything is gonna be a pile of dust. Take care of it, shoot it and pass it down. The memory that Dad used it will be of greater worth than that of a pristine gun. My .02 and good luck.

Yes by all means shoot it!! Could never figure why folks would buy a gun and not shoot it!

Shoot it, it's worth too much in unfired condition! I the first shot is the most expensive one, about half the gun's unfired value. After you reduce the value by about half it does not matter then, shoot as much as you like. Helps reduce the cost of that first shot!

The real value of the gun is that fact that it's been in the family for so long. You won't hurt the value by shooting it, just keep it in the family. Selling a gun that's been in the family for 60 years doesn't make sense anyway. Enjoy it, and then pass it along to the next generation after you've taken care of it too.
