Welcome to the forum. Rules are to join in, be polite and not post anything our younger readers should not be exposed to.

We do allow double-posting (repeating questions in the different forums). It needlessly consumes server space and splits relevant answers into different threads where persons interested in the topic may miss some of the responses. Please look over the stickies in the General forum for posting rules.

On the slugs, try sending a PM or e-mail to James Gates. He is a member who manufactures slugs and will likely have some good information for you. Use the members button on the top of the page to look him up and send your message or a link to this question.

I have had good luck with 12 ga. slugs of various kinds. I assume you are where there is a slug gun season, like here in Ohio? If you are not, in the Encore (rifle format, I presume) you might consider going to a .45-70 barrel. You can buy or load .45-70 cartridges with bullets from 20 ga. - 12 ga. slug weights and get greater velocity, range, and accuracy. A flat meplat cast bullet, like those from the board's sponsor, Beartooth Bullets, will stop game right now.

We have many Wildlife Management Areas in Florida taht are restricted to the use of shotgun only. The quotas are very limited, so in the past I never applied for them. But since soon I will be permit exempt(geiser), I figured a slug barrel would be a good investment, since these areas are very deer and hog populated due to the low hunting pressure. Aging is finally paying off!

I have a 24" 20ga Encore barrel, and it is laser accurate with the 3" Federal/Barnes slugs. It's been the only slug I've tried so far, but does great on deer.
