Have long been a single shot and bolt rifle shooter. Have not had too much exposure to lever actions. It seems there is quite a trend to employ lever actions with non traditional/wildcat calibers these days. Maybe it isn't a trend, but, it sure looks like a popular undertaking. There are the Alaskans, the Hawks, the Turnbulls, the 50-110 and numerous others that seem to have followings. Then there are the platforms themselves: the '71, '86, '95, and the Marlins.
As an potentially interested future owner of a big bore lever I was wondering about the conversion potential of the Browning BLR. I read where the current production models have aluminum receivers and that internals(parts) seem to offer problems from time to time. Given these limitations, is the BLR in the magnum length receiver a candidate for conversion to 416 Taylor or 458 Winchester, for example.
Thanks for all the expert commentary to date on this and many other subjects in these forums.

Welcome to the forum Mike. Rules are simple, be nice and join in.

That's an interesting question and to be honest I don't know. It would seem to me that if the platform could handle the pressure and case size of cartridges in the 300 / 338 Winchester mag it could handle a 458 Win mag. I just don't think there is any call for those rifles chambered in bigger cartridges. Most folks that want those over 40 caliber units are looking for a Dangerous Game Rifle and the controlled round feed bolt guns seem to be favored.

It'll be interesting to see other folks take on your question.

IIRC, someone did a .416 Taylor conversion on a BLR and wrote it up in Gun Digest or Handloader's Digest. I'll see if I can look it up.
