I am looking to purchase a new rifle in .308 for target shooting as well as hunting. Came across the Beretta Tikka T3 Varmint and was wondering if anyone has any knowledge or experiences with these rifles. I had never seen them before. Any info would be much appreciated.

Check the rifle section. There are several of us who shoot Tikkas. Generally, you'll find satisfied owners.

They are essentially budget-version Sakos. I have seen a few of them at the range, but they've all been the Lite versions. I was considering getting a Tikka Hunter in 308 a couple of years ago, but I ran across a used Sako 75 in 308 that I bought instead. The plastic around the magazine well on the Tikka was the only thing that didn't sit well with me.

Tikka have a very good reputation for accuracy and durability - they're made inthe same factory as SAKO - nearly bought one 2 or 3 three times, but have discovered I can get a superior gun for much less money by buying Howa barrelled actions, fooling with them a bit and dropping them in a quality stock.

Mine in 06 just scored again last week. I have been pleased even though I have not had the range time yet to ring her out. I am shooting a load developed for my Rem 760 and it has taken two whitetails at close range. After season will tell the tale when load development starts if needed. I hope my present load is good enough.

I have not adjusted the trigger yet but it seems good where it is. No creep and lighter than my other triggers already. I have had only one issue with the rifle so far and it was because I was not versed in bolt action safeties. I did not know that the 2 position safety kept the bolt from cycling when on. I was really getting down on the bolt trying to open it with the safety on. I could have broke something before I figured it out but luckily I did not. Now I know why people want the 3 position safety on guns. Just a little added feature. I am fine with the operation now and am comfortable in the field with the rifle.

If I haven't done so before welcome to the forum Aldribrm.

Most of the folks that have and use them on this forum and several other forums I'm on are very pleased with the Tikka's. The question I have is are you planning on doing some formal target shooting or informal target shooting. Most target events have certain guidelines for the rifles used. You would want to be sure whatever you buy will conform to the rules prior to purchase if you plan on participating in some kind of formal competition.
