I saw a photo recently in a hunting magazine of a gunwriter shooting a single-shot and he had a really nifty cartridge holder that seemed to wrap around his left wrist. I've not seen these anywhere. Do any of you have one, and if so, do you like them or not?

I've never looked for em locally, but they're widely available online, Uncle Mike's makes em. I thought about them, but prefer the neoprene butt stock carrier.

Thanks, Wrongtarget, these are possibilities but they are not identical to the one I saw in the photo. The Uncle Mike's and T/C wrist cartridge holders hold the cartridge perpendicular to the arm, while the one I saw was parallel to the arm.

Sounds like a simple leatherworking project, perhaps?

Around 1965,when I first started hunting with my Trapdoor Springfield, single shot rifle I made a wrist cartridgeholder.I still have it.
Simply cut 3 loops from a cartridge belt.make a buttonhole on each side.Sew two corresponding buttomns on the jacket(in my case 2 jackets). You can have the cartridges point in any direction that you choose.
I saw one of those neoprene rigs at a store in Alaska(vacation). It's o\OK,but I prefer the button on one.

Mike G - when it comes to me being handy, nothing is simple, though I like Kragman's idea, only I might try Velcro.

Sunday Creek,
Take a look around in this web site http://www.sassnet.com/Links-Main-001A.php
which is the Single Action Shooting Society (weekend cowboy shooters), then scroll down about half-way on the page to the Leather Goods listing, look at the various web sites to see if you can come up with a wrist cartridge holder of your likings? Many of the SASS shooters use such a wrist holder, and if you don't find one you like, them leather workers can put together most anything you'd probably want? Hope this helps.

I've used a sweatband before, but I prefer to put the cartridges between my fingers, ala double rifle shooters method.

Sunday Creek - I have one and have used it on a feww occassion. It works really well with the T.C. Encore, for it serves up a cartidge with little movement as you "break" the action for a reload. My wife tried it on an "outing" last year with less than satifactory results as her wrists were too small to keep the cartidge holder in place even in long "sleeves". I put a "stock" cartidge holder in place for her use, which holds five times the rounds. I believe the "wrist" holder is most useful in a tree stand as it is rather easy to lose rounds while "stalking" or "still hunting" IMO. Riley

I've been shooting a Ruger #1 for the last five years for coyotes and though it's got one of the stock cartridge holders I keep a couple of rounds in my fingers for fast loading. The #1 loaded that way is as fast as I can cycle a bolt gun. I've done several doubles on coyotes that way. It doesn't matter where the cartridges are on the side of the gun or on your wrist in your fingers is the fastest with a single shot.

Used this with decent results. But then again I still like the finger method. It is much faster.
