I just bought a new Puma full size rifle Mod 92. The question is all the reloading information I see is for a pistol. I am sure that the rifle will probably take a little heavier load but does anyone have any info on this or should I just stick with pistol loads. Would like to be able to shoot out to 100 to 200 yards.
I plan on using both lead and jacketed bullets~~~but mainly lead 250 gr.
Right now I am shooting Speer 250 gr lead RNFP and 5.4 Trail Boss.

With the '92's action the load can be HOT!(but that's just me). Any load that is favorable for a Ruger Blackhawk or RedHawk will definately be OK in your PUMA '92. I have expieramented with some awful HOT! 45LC loads in my PUMA,.454 Casull.
In fact(insert all cautions here)I have heard of some fella's coming up "fairly close" to .454 Casull velocities.
Use care and stay safe. -----pruhdlr

You can go as hot as you can stand it! Just understand with the Ruger only loads you have a thumper in the game fields! After you beat yourself up a while you'll figure it out, you don't have to go hot, to get the performance on game you need! Have fun!

If you're going to load HOT, hopefully you will never get these cartridges mixed in with your Colt clone revolver ammo. As for me, shooting accurately out to 100 yards with published loads is not a problem. 200 yards is stretching it with iron sights and old eyes.

Hmmm. Puma 92....
That is also availablein .454.
Lessee....
How about "fill the case with W296 or H110, stuff in a boolit and don't worry about it..."?

Have one of those, really enjoy shooting it. My load of choice is 255 gr swc in front of 18.5 of 2400 w/ a win. L.P. standard/ mag primer. Shoots good, about 3 in. @ 100 yds. Rifle is set up w/ a williams 5D sight on the receiver and a williams fire sight mounted in the dove tail slot on the front of the barrel. Installed this per Marshall Stantons instructions. Planning on using this set up for deer here in N. Id this fall. Have fun I think you will really enjoy your 45.

The max pressure 45 Colt loads I have ever shot out of my Puma M92 454 Casull rifle are 300gr XTP's loaded long with 24grs H110.
They were extremely tame compared to my 454 loads...
(Do not use these loads in any revolver...)
If you are using Speer soft lead swaged or extruded bullets, you must keep them under approx. 900 fps or you will have horrible leading. Remember if your load is 850 in a revolver, it will be at least 1000 in a rifle. Use jacketed or quality cast bullets with a gas check and you can go well beyond 1500 fps if your shoulder can take it.

I think velocity is very important in the Rossi
250 grain RNFP Colorado cast bullets WW primers
9 grains Unique works absolutely the best for me one ragged hole at 50 yards
17 grains 5744 is OK
18.5gr 2400 shoots more or less the same as 9.0 Unique OVERKILL
~21.5gr triple 7 with the same bullet is mostly one big hole with a few strays & still significantly more accurate than soft shooting trail boss, clays or standard factory 45 colt for that matter. I can't get real black powder to work as well YET, but still working on it.
I shoot a different bullet in my revolvers so there is no mix up, & or use nickel Remington brass so I don't load the wrong ammunition in my "Italian" colts. 9 grains of Unique is a nasty load in a light Colt revolver.
I shot some Tightgroup in my revolvers over the weekend it might work well in the Rossi near the high end of the loading table.
Unique is not any more "dirty" than clays, trail boss or tightgroup, shooting smokeless all 45 colts cases get sooty.
Loading on a progressive press, I like the safety of being able to see a double charge and have stopped reloading 4 or 5 grains ultra fast powders in the big 45 Colt case. I shoot Trail boss or Black powder in the 45 colt.
I use 777 for SASS competition in the Rifle, real BP in other guns.
