Has anyone out there shot and or used the new spr18 in 308. Curious on how it shoots and is it comparable with the H&R handi rifle and the single Rossie?

Here's a pix of what allegany is talking about. The one I want is the double gun that Remington said they were going to sell and so far haven't.

Here's the double gun and it's supposed to be avialable in 270, 06 and 45-70.

Here's the over under they were selling in a bunch of different calibers, but now only in 12 gauge and 223.

I wanted one in 06 just so I could stop the charge of an enraged whitetail intent on doing me bodily harm.

Just came upon your post. What kind of mount and rings did you use? I'm thinking REAL serious about a Spartan in .223 and will need a scope.

For coyote hunting I like a low power variable with a wide field of view. A 2 by 7 or 3 by 9 seems to work very well. In the spring when the grass starts growing I put an old 8 by 32 on for ground squirrels and rockchucks.
Over there in the West side of the Cascades there's lots of brushy areas where that wide field of view would come in handy. and 7 to 9 power is plenty for long shots as far as you can effectively shoot a 223. I'm not sure, but I believe the Sparten takes either the 11mm or 13 mm european dovetail rings and Millet makes them in windage adjustable models. That's what I use on the CZ I Shoot. A really good scope for the money is Cabela's Pine Ridge models. I've put a bunch of the 2 by 7's on various rifles.

My rings are Millets, My scope is a Vari X II 2 - 7 var.

Got one too. Only shoot it on the range or at hogs but so far its fun and on target. Scope hangs a little far back and slows the reload time but who cares. One shot-one hit-or miss. Hogs tend to vanish at the sound of a 308 zinging by. It's a great rifle for the range too. While I am no where near the level of shooter as most on this board I am a retired Army 1Sgt grunt and have fired a few down range. There's nothing like an assault rifle with a 30 round mag on auto and theres not much more enjoyable than one shot one hit(range or field) Good luck with it. Oh yea, I'll get the name of my mounts if needed.

You should be aware that scope mounting can be a bit problematical due to the very short rail. There is just room enough for two rings with the scope turret filling the space between. There is no room to move the scope back or forward to adjust the eye relief, where ever it happens to fit is where it has to be and if that doesn't happen to fit you and your shooting style, tough luck.
Faucettb, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the side by side rifle, European American Armory advertised them for several years before Remington took over the importation and Remington has advertised them ever since and no one has seem one yet. I too think a 45/70 double would be pretty cool, but- oh well.

I'm going to check out an SPR 18 in .223 today. A dealer/smithy I talked to on the phone said he is pretty sure Leopold makes an adapter that slides over and locks on the short rail and extends it considerably allowing better scope placement. Anyone know anything about this? I too am concerned about the short distance for the scope. When I go to check the SPR out, I'll try to remember to ask about the adapter and answer my own question. If it is so, I'll let you all know what it is.

That sounds like a good idea. I had thought maybe one could just drill and tap the rail to add a Weaver mount base for the Marlin lever guns which is a flat bottom base and should sit nicely atop the flat topped rail. That would make the mount higher but would provide some adjustment for eye distance. Then again, one could just get a handi-rifle which comes with a good scope mount attached.

I shoot a SPR18 in a 308 cal scoped with a Burris 2-7x35 and it is a tac driver. I am capable of hitting the end of of a coke can at 225 yards with seven consecutive shots all within an inch and a half. I have not fine tuned the gun yet but will work on it this coming week. The problem with the short rail, I fixed by having my gunsmith cut an extra rail slot and this woks well with a set of Warne 7.3's. I am going to load some 308's with 125 noslers with ballistic tips for some coyote hunting. For deer, I am using Federal 150's with Barnes triple shocks. Would like to hear from some other individuals using the same gun in a lighter caliber to see how theirs is shooting. I am considering purchasing another one. I also have a SPR 94 and a SPR 100 that I have converted to a turkey gun. My SPR 94 is chambered for a 308 and 12 ga.
