I'm thinking of buying a Ruger#1 tropical or Having an existing Ruger#1 rebarreled for a 500 S&W or have fun with a rebarreled Ruger#1 in 44mag with a 16inch tropical weight barrel. Anyone here have a custom #1?

Nope, but I have a 1979 1B in 243 that is just a dandy rifle. My grand daughter ended up with it for Christmas last year. She had been shooting it for a couple of years. I'd never owned one and found this one when I happened to have the money at hand. Sure glad I bought it.

They can do about anything on the #1's (or #3's).

Many years ago there was an article in Guns&Ammo magazine, where Ross Seyfried had a #1 redone into a .470 Nitro, by Hamilton Bowen.
When the .500 S&W was first announced, I checked with SSK Industries on rebarreling a Ruger #3 for it, and they said: "Why not?" Give them a looksee, ya might find something in their list of c'tridges to 'scratch yore itch'?

Another option would be www.cutrifle.com for a re-bore into a larger c'tridge/chamber...or any of several outfits that do re-boring. I use a #3, re-bored from .223 to .308 WCF, and it shoots 'more better' than I can.
Also, had a Ruger #3 in .223 re-bored/chambered in to .257 Rbts, this back in 1972, and used it for my caribou rifle in Alaska for many years.
