It’s probably the half round barrel – very rare – very desirable….. I have a standard Model 92 in .25-20 that my Great Uncles used for subsistence hunting in the 1920’s when they mined and prospected all over New Mexico. To describe this rifle as used is one of the all time understatements. Yet I have had people tell how rare the rifle is in rifle configuration.
I have never seen an early Winchester .25-20 with a decent bore. I suppose they exist but I have not encountered one. My Marlin 1894CL is a far better rifle and worth considerably less money. I guess it is simply the difference between collecting and shooting.

Like you said, half round, and it was a rifle, not carbine. I'm not really into collecting, like I told the counter guy, I could own a lot of other guns for that kind of money.
