What is the correct size Williams fire sight bead to order for the 1895GS? No reference charts to be found. Have the peep sight, but found that in real world hunting situations, with my eyes, need a bright front sight.

Also, any thoughts on the rear apertures? Want to go larger, and have drilled out the factory aperture now to max, but saw the "Twilight" which appears to have a brass ring or something, as well as the "Big Game" which appears to make it a ghost ring, and was wondering what you lever experts thought. What size aperture do you suggest, 3/8"x.150"?

Took a 150yd shot on a spike this year, dropped in its tracks, but bead covered entire shoulder so accurate aiming was difficult and I hit it in the neck (I don't claim to be the best shot, so I need all the help I can get). Will be mounting a 4x scope the way Marshall did on his .444p, so this will help on the longer shots as well.

Thanks in advance, and God Bless, Ryan

I personally like the older 1mm size. I'm not sure if you can get it anymore. I've used both red and green - I don't think color matters. (I bought my own fibre and changed it). Anyways, my eyesight sucks but I can put the dot on an animal nicely out to 200yds.

I use the WRGS receiver on two rifles and I've left the stock insert in place. I like it just fine. I recently whacked an Elk at 18yds that was running straight at me and I didn't have any problems with quick sighting. At that distance I have both eyes open anyway.

This is not the best picture in the world. I installed the Firesight set on my Guide Gun, red front, green rear. They get me on target quicker than anything I've tried. I sighted mine in using the 6:00 configuration. At 75 yards I print about 1.5 inches high. I tried peep sights and Ashley Owens Ghost Ring, didn't like either on my gun. I went with the Firesights and have nothing but good things to say about them.

Factory irons...peep sights...scope...oh what to do...lol

I just got a Marlin 1895 45/70. I will be taking it to the range this weekend. I have no idea what to use for sights. I have no problem using factory irons out to 100 yards, but I find that past 100 they are not persice enough. All the hunting I do here in eastern Canada in mostly under 100 with the odd 100 to 150. I like the look of the gun without a scope. How do you guys like the Williams peep sights? What would be a good size front sight to use with the Williams?

My Marlins are set up with a Lyman or Williams peep, and a front sight from Ashley Outdoors (now XO sight systems, I think).

Works great but I don't use them at long range.

I have used a very fine fiber optic front sight, with a peep rear, for shooting silhouettes. This to 100 meters and it worked very well, but it wasn't my gun.

Good luck....

I have found that a ghost-ring setup works extremely well. While requiring the removal of the barrel-mounted rear sight, this setup is very fast on-target and accurate as well. Depending on the front sight chosen, you can go with plain blue, tritium, fiber optic, or even a gold line insert that really shines!

Good luck.
