I used a LEE 459 dia. 408 gr. hollowbase mold. First I anneal the whole 44 Spec. case, then derim it it in an inverted trim die. On the mold: I removed the hollowbase nub at the bottom of the mold and drilled the mold using a 15/32 drill down to the right depth ( I'd put the case into place and test it) and drill a little at a time until I got there.! This is a nose-pour mold by the way. I don't need a custom mold anymore, this works just fine!

I'm trying to remember, didn't you have the post up on using cases for jacket awhile back? The only thing I'd worry about in what you describe here is eccentricity of the case/jacket drilling with the lead mold cavity. It's pretty easy for a conventional drill to walk off center. Putting the mold in a lathe with a 4-jaw chuck and indicating the original cavity concentric, then drilling undersized followed by single-point boring to final size with a small boring bar is about the only way I can think of to guarantee a concentric seat for the .44 case.
Let us know how these things shoot from the modified mold? That's the acid test.

I remember your other posts to swampdoc. I'd like to see some pix of what your doing, it' would make a good article for our tech section. Like Nick says how do they shoot and have you tried any on game yet?
