Ok 'I have a trapper 94 .44 mag and I love it, even with the ugly crossbar.
However my dad recently purchaced the same rifle in a brushed nickle finish( ?) acording to the box label. He did some research and came up with nothing ,then he called Winchester and they do not have any record of a brushed nickel rifle? He is waiting on word from the custom shop, but if any one here has any info it would be greatly appreciated. The rifle is a trapper 16" barrel saddle ring and in .44 mag and unfired and has the box to match. Winchester folks are scratching there heads. Does anyone here know of such a rifle?I have seen the box, the writingon the box and the rifle to match.Any info would be greatly appreciated.

It is one of 500 made in about 1998. They were built as a promo for one of the big distributors. Strange as it may be, U.S. Repeating Arms did not keep any kind of record of these special order guns. A 500 unit lot was make for Gander Mountain Sports back in the early '90 and USRA's customer service dept. did not know about
them! The Gander Mtn. trappers have green laminated stocks and consisted of 200 in 44 Mag and 300 in 30-30.

The Brushed Chrome guns, Does yours say "Brushed Niclel"? Anyway, as far as I know, these guns were made in 44 Mag. only and the 16 inch trapper only. These guns are rare and keep going up in value. Be sure to keep the box! The box is your only documentation that shows it to be a factory nickel finish. Since USRA kept no records of these special order guns, having the box adds $50 to $100 to the value of a gun and often more to these special guns.

Enjoy it, you will not see many like it. Shooting it will reduce it's value, considerably.

Thanks for the reply. My dad does have the box and it does say brushed nickel. I t has a 16" barell wood stocks and .44 mag.And you are right about there not being any records the Winchester folks had no clue even when given the serial number. The box is on top of the safe and the little rifle is locked inside.

The front office of US Repeating Arms had no idea what was being produced in the factory. They had no record of any variations from standard configuration, and there were many. I have one new in box that was assembled incorrectly in the factory and cannot possibly be fired. USRA denied the existence of such a firearm. I wonder why they went out of business?

Well JB I believe you hit the nail on the head.Just imagine with the history and fine products that have carried the Winchester name,if they would have had some Winchester enthusiast folks involed,I am sure the folks that are on this board are more knowledgable than what was in the office. You would have thought they would have realized where the real knowledge base was,the enthusiasts and capitalized on that. But then again I am not a businessman just an enthusiast(still gaining knowledge) that would like to buy a new Winchester something. There would not be any old Winchesters unless there were new ones first.
