Well I don't know if this fits under hunting, but figured I would tell it anyway.

On Boxing day I tryed trap shooting for the first time, and I have to say, it was a great time. Its a tradition with the future in-laws to do this every year (gotta love the new in-laws). I will say, I missed the first one that flew out, but after that it was smooth sailing. I was shooting my 870 magnum express, which performed flawlessly. But after about 150 rounds I am starting to understand why everyone else had "Limbsaver" pads on their firearms. I was some sore, but would I hesitate to do it again, not likely. I am considering purchasing a thrower myself now so that I can do it more often. It was a great time, and I am looking forward to doing it every year.
Just thought I would share the experience with you guys.

I haven't done a bunch of it but I always enjoyed the times I shot clay birds too.

If you have somebody to throw for you those plastic hand throwers do a good job.

Yes, recoil effects are cumulative!
A big ol' heavy trap gun shooting "lite" loads may seem to be a mild kicker to many people, but it adds up after a lot of shots.
In my tiny bit of trap shooting experience, I shot at my club on Thursday nights. Most of the "regulars" used that shoot as a warm-up for another club's shoot on Friday night...which was considered practice for the weekend-long shoot at the big gun club.
Those guys were shooting trap at least four days in a row, every week. I'd hate to guess how many rounds those guys went through each weekend.
Of all the things that got tinkered with, I saw more experimenting to reduce recoil than anything else. Changing loads, swapping pads, installing recoil reducers, and adding weight.

Either way, it's a recipe for a fun time!

Amen to that! I was just going to suggest that if it was backyard clay birds, that he find somewhere to try 16 yard trap as well since he enjoyed it so much!

It was just backyard clays. I think I am going to look into the local gun club to see how often they do shoots.
