Any of you have any knowledge of the Traditions Buckhunter inline pistol? It comes in .45 and .50 caliber with 1 in 28" twist barrels that range from 9 1/2" up to 14 3/4" (including muzzlebrake). Website claims accuracy out to 50 or 60 yards. One thing I wonder about is how much powder can a short barrel burn up? Thanks, Guy

The 14.75" barrel will burn plenty of powder, problem is the fast twist won't let you load it heavy without blowing the accuracy. I had several 1:32 & faster twist pistol barrels, not a single one of them would shoot decent with more than a 30 grain charge. Fast twist puts too much spin on the ball, instead of just compensating for the errors it amplifies them and the balls go wild.

The one I'm familiar with is a .50 cal. with a 12 3/4 inch barrel with a screw-on muzzle break. The owner's manual suggested 60 grains FFG as a maximum load. I kinda ignored that and ran 80 grains FFG behind a 348 grain Power Belt.
--Ball loads were hit and miss, with the best groups coming from 45 grains FFFG Goex.
--My pistol had a "choked" muzzle, caused at the time the barrel was threaded. Making initial loading difficult. A barrel without a muzzle break probably wouldn't had that problem.
--In the beginning, the pistol was also offered in .54 caliber, but I've not had the pleasure of finding one of those.
--They can be fairly accurate, they're not really suited to handle the 85+ grain loads needed to expand a bullet. But on the other hand, a .50 bullet doesn't have to expand to make a big hole. Have fun.
