Hello
I have a quantity of cast bullets that fit nicely into the TC Shockwave sabot.
Has anyone tried that combination? Or has anyone a favorite loose sabot to suggest.I think that the loose sabots are designed for 'cheap'shooting, and some may be of poor quality.
Thanks
Frank

I have paperpached the LEE 457/405 and it gave adequate accuracy but only after having been lubed.

Why paper patch the bullet that is in a sabot?thhe bullet does not touch the riflig, and the paper canot be shredded,as in normal use.

I paper patch the same 457-405 in my .458 muzzleloader. I have had great luck with that bullet. I also need it to be lubbed, and I use Hornady lube. I have heard that there is a sabot that will work with .458 bullets. I remember it was a orange sabot form MMP? I wish I would have seved the web page. Ron

Thanks forthe tip.But I just came back from a shopping trip. There ar no empy sabots available in my area. I checked Mid South catalog.Tey list large petal and small petal sabots.Does anyone know what the difference is?Both cost 4.32 per 50
I sized a batch of my 45 cal Gould bullets(330 grain)down to .452 and they fit pretty good. With the sabot on they measure .5015.The jackertd bullet with sabot measures right on .500.The difference is the beveled base of the jacketed bullet.
There are Hornady high pressure sabots for 6.84 per 50 and Harvester high pressure sabots with crushed ribs for 5.11 per 50.
Thanks,
Frank

My mould is a 459-405. I have had great luck with them so far at the range. Let me know how you do with yours. I know the orange sabots are said to be longer and you get more grip on the long bullets. if your sabot is too short it won't fly worth a hoot. About the base, If you get a mould that throws gas check bulltes it would work the same.

I like that website. It is also connected with the chuck Hawks site, which is well worth reading. It gives a good account of various sabots.I'm going to order some orange for .458 caliber bullets and black ffor .452 bullets.
Chuck Hawk also offers some sobering data on the CVA line of MZL guns.
He cites lab tests that show that CVA guns are made of softer steel then any other company and their standards are lower.I would suggest that anyone considering the purchase of an inline rifle to use with High Pressure loads read his site.I'm not interested in any load over 100 grains,so I'm not overly concerned.
