I shot both a 7.5 inch Super Redhawk and a 5.5 inch Redhawk 44 magnums for a bunch of years and I couldn't tell the difference. Where I noted the difference was in a lighter gun vs a heavier gun.

In my ill spent youth I had a pile of 44 mag toyz ranging from 4" S&W to 14" Contender....all at one time. Could not tell an appreciable difference between recoil.
Now I have one. A 4 5/8" SBH and have tried factory 180 gr and some old 320 gr SSK bullets loaded to, shall we say "adventerous " levels and I could tell no difference.

Like faucettb said, with identical guns and only slight variations in barrel length, felt recoil will feel the same. As barrel length increases, so does the gun's weight which tends to help reduce felt recoil. You will feel a noticeable difference should you fire two identical guns, one having a 2" and the other a 10" barrel.
