I shot a friends Marlin 45/70 in deer season and loved the handling. The only thing that holds me back is the darn safety.

I know, I shouldn't talk about such things, but I hate Marlin's additional safety on the side of the receiver. How can it be removed, covered up, or replaced with a plug?

I agree wholeheartedly with MikeG. The replacement works like a charm and looks good to boot. We have used them and would recommend them highly.
