It probably hinges on financing...MDM is putting up the $$$ so long as their cartridge thingies get priority.

Their demographics may show a big market for such items because most who muzzleload or have considered doing so are not very well informed and are impressed with the idea of just loading one item then priming... almost as simple as centerfires. Pellet ease taken one step further.

My letter of Jan 30 to them:

"I'm a convinced user of Black Mag 3 from the time it was produced by the original maker, ARCO Powder. My understanding is that MagKor has retained all the original qualities, maybe even enhanced them.

I am a long time muzzleloader and am not at all enamored with pellet type configurations.
Is this fine product to be available as conventional granulated powder?"

WELL SAID hAMMERSPUR:D i second you on pelletized powder. getting harder and harder to distinguise between modern rifles and m/l`s. kinda taking the sport out of things in my opinion. pellet powders, electronic ignition, whats next heat seeking projectles. guess its **** to get old. take care:rolleyes:

I went to the Eastern Outdoor Show in Harrisburg,Pa back on Feb.10th and met Craig Sanborn of MDM Muzzle Loaders Inc. which as you have heard is the company you must contact to get information on BlackMag3. He had an exhibiters booth there featuring MDM Muzzle Loader rifles and BM3. I was getting on him a little about the poor marketing and availability of BM3. I have been using this powder for the past couple of years and for me it's the best powder on the market. I have only been able to buy it at one sporting store in my area and they don't really know anything about BlackMag's attributes as they have never tried it and apparently gotten no feedback from anyone who has.So as I said I met Mr. Sanborn at the outdoor show and while talking to him he offered to sell me all the BM3 I wanted right there for the hefty fee of 40.00 per lb. Well as I have said I use it and really like it, but at that price I had to decline his offer and told him in no uncertain terms that I thought that was way too much for it. I have been apparently buying mine from an older stock at 30.00, which I thought to be a bit pricey but it perfomed so well I didn't mind. Mr. Sanborn informed me they were soon to launch a marketing campaign and expand the dealer base as well, but I must say as much as I like this powder I'm going to have to really talk myself into paying this much for it.

Even $30/lb. is WAY too expensive for me to even try. In the event I really like the stuff, I'll regret even trying it!! LOL

I agree that 30.00 per lb. was still expensive but when you consider that 777 is selling for somewhere in the mid 20's range and BlackMag3 beats the crap out of it for clean shooting and much easier cleanup after shooting it was worth it to me but at 40.00 I think these guys at MDM have gone way over the top. It's pretty disappointing to say the least.

Disappointing, YES. But as you say, BM3 "beats the crap out of" the others by such a wide margin (especially Pyrodex... vilest filth ever!) that I will probably bite the bullet and stay with it nonetheless.

Blackhorn 209 shows promise, but still remains an unknown plus
