 Just wondering about this nation wide. Here in Pa, if you buy a Contender, or an Encore rifle, be it a 30-30, muzzleloader, or shotgun, you have to get a hunting and fishing permitt to hunt with it, like hand gunners have to get. It doesn't matter if you bought it as a rifle, and never intend to turn it into a handgun, because it can be converted, you must have the permitt to hunt with it. They don't even advertise it, our state police came up with the law, but talking to the court house here, they reminded me, ignorance of the law is no excuse. It's a feloney to not have the permitt here in Pa. Do any of you folks have this bull to deal with in your state???

Not here in Idaho Butch. We can carry a handgun without a ccw as long as were not in a city limits. I guess that's why we got an F - from the Brady bunch. Such a shame.

Yep I had to get a handgun permit for purchase when I bought my Contener 35 Remington carbine. Of course it was fine with me as I began soon after purchasing handgun barrels too. No permits needed here in NC for hunting with handguns. No permits needed for owning or carrying handguns either. No registering or anything. Without concealed carry liscence though you can only carry concealed on your own property. It is hard to conceal a Contender :)

You have a few facts wrong Butch. First of all it is not a felony to hunt with a handgun without a hunting, fishing, target practice (HFT) permit, it is a summary offense at best. From what I can make of the laws, it is not required at all for hunting. Secondly, a contender or encore in rifle or shotgun configuration are long guns and not handguns for all hunting reasons. Lastly, the State Police do not make laws, they enforce them. All laws in Pennsylvania are enacted by legislature, elected by the people of the Commonwealth.
I hope this clears things up for you,

Come down to Louisiana, we do not have to have a permit to carry a handgun. You can carry it on your person as long as it is not concealed. You can not carry in publicly owned building, schools, or any place alcoholic beverages are sold, or an establishment that has a sign posted "no firearms allowed". But walk down the street with a six shooter on your hip is legal. You might cause a stir but you will not go to jail.

Kudu40 I'm only going on what they told me at the Butler County court house, here in Pa. I know the state police don't make laws, they told me at the court house that it was the state police's idea to have a law passed to require the permitt. Just out of curiosity, do you live in Pa??
