What's the best way to store a handgun? I'm not worried about security so much as efficient use of space.

I'm thinking wooden dowels spaced in such a way that one goes through the trigger guard (or between the back of the trigger guard and the grip for a revolver) and one under the barrel so that the gun hangs in a slight barrel-down attitude.

I'm enough of a wood-worker to custom build something that would work, but it wouldn't be very adaptable. Perhaps something with a peg-board back and plastic (and therefore non-marring) pins?

Anybody done something like this or know where a similar system can be purchased reasonably?

Cabale's sells rubber coated metal racks that go in a gun safe and I've seen nylon holster type affairs that velcro to the insides of gun safes. I sure suggest a safe bolted down so it's really hard to get out of a building. It doesn't take many guns of any type to be pretty valuable.

I store my handguns in two old thick briefcases with padding inserted in the bottom and a padding on top. Then they're placed in my gun lockers sideways so as to fit. Then of course I lock it up (except for one that I keep handy with me at all times);)

Well, I've attached pix of my low-buck solution. I'll probably cover the whole thing in some nice felt for a little padding, but this seems to work well and took a couple of hours and a bit of wood from my scrap pile.

Back and bottom are 5/8" multiply furniture grade plywood, dividers are 1/4" Birch veneer.

I use wooden broom handles that I get out of the trash at work and cut them about 5" long and put them through the triger gaurds of 2 handguns. They stand up and take less space in the safe and don't hit each other. Dave
