I went back today and bought a .444 that I'd been looking at. I got it for $350.00. It was much nicer than I had remembered it being. I think that's a fair deal with the Leupold rings and base. The rear sight was missing, but they found one in the parts box and installed it for free. The wood has a few love marks but the figure in the wood is outstanding.
I'm going to have to reload for this one. The cheapest ammo they had was $42.00 for 20 rounds. The Cor-Bond was $70.00 a box.
Congrats on the purchase of one fine rifle. It is easy to reload accurate ammo for also. Enjoy

Read the articles by Marshall on the 444 (there are 3 of them with two more coming sometime in the future). The round is easy to load for and I only use Beartooth Bullets. After hunting with it for the past three years, I can tell you that it is great on game. Congrats and good luck!:)

Sounds like a steal at $350! I looked around here for a while for a 45/70 or .444 used at a good price, but no luck and had to buy new (Iwanted a 444p, but ended up with an 1895GS). I keep hearing about these cheap buys on here and it makes me sick.

It looks like my rifle was made in 2003. It should have Ballard rifling correct?

Yes it has the Ballard rifling and that is a very good deal. I would work with the 290-grain LFNGC BTB.
Sounds like a good deal, and a nice rifle. I would have been a 444 owner, but bought a 1895GS new 1 month before I saw a 444P for $325. I do like my .45-70, but no denying that the 444 is more economical to reload, and a great cartridge.

I want a 444p for $325. I am lucky if I find any 444 for under $450 here :(

I have been looking for a 444 or 45-70 levergun for over a year and just do not see them around here! I have no idea what one would cost if I did find one!

In Lubbock, there weren't anywhere to be seen, but since I've moved I've been seeing one or two pop up at a time at gunshows and the pawnshop they call a gunshop here. No 444Ps though :(
