For you guys using a peep sight, what are you using for a front sight? I'm not quite happy with the stock bead. I'm thinking a flat post would be better. Or maybe I'm just not using the bead correctly. The bead seems to cover a lot of the target, so I use the top of the bead. I think the flat topped blade would be more accurate? Any recommendations?

I'm getting older and I sure like the fire sights that went on my muzzle loader. Old eyes and bright sights work for me.

I'm with faucettb, I'm going to the Williams Fire Sight front bead on my 1895GS. Helps with concentration on target. A little course for long range or precision shooting, but great for other practical applications like hunting and plinking.

Thanks for the replies guys. I've used a 2-7 power scope for several years that works very well. However, I just like the handling better without the scope on there. I've been hoping I could get good enough to shoot out to 200 yards with the peep sight, but that hasn't happened yet. Do you just center the bead on the target? I've been trying to use the top of the round bead but it hasn't worked all that well. That's why I was thinking about a flat post. If it wasn't so dang cold here (high of 2F today) I'd hit the range tomorrow and try just centering the bead. I'd appreciate any advice because I'd really like to get this rig good out to 200 yards or so. Maybe I just need more practice.

I use the bead by centering it, but it covers up a lot of target past 50-75yd. Easiest way for me to line it up, though.

I use the XS sights .110 white post front sight with my XS sights ghost ring.

+1 on the XS sights suggestion. I have them on every rifle I own that wears a peep sight, whether receiver or tang. I prefer the flat topped front sight and find it easier to consistently hit with than the round top bead sights.

Does that little white line make that much difference? Just wondering because the XS front is 30 bucks and I can get a plain post for about ten. I think pisgah had an interesting one awhile back.

It helps in low light. Figure it can't hurt if I'm shooting at dark pigs, in, well, the dark :D

i filed the sides of my front sight bead down. now the sight is more in a long triangle shape. i put a little dab of white paint at the top. i have made 200 yard shots at 7"x7" steel plates. off the bench i hit them pretty much every time. standing free hand is more like 5-6 out of 10.

AUW, you're a much better off hand shot than I am! I've been thinking about filing the top down to get a nice flat. I never thought about filing the sides. You wouldn't happen to have a picture of that would you?

picture? well, i just switched from a 110(an ancient kodak) to those disposable ones. technology flies over my head.
i just took the hood off and used the smoother side of a file and very carefully and slowly filed the sides, same strokes to each side until it sloped evenly from the base to the top. it doesn't have to be a sharp point at the top. looks like this /\ but not quite as wide at the base. if you mess up you can order a new sight. the filing only took me five minutes.

Since the last post I installed a Skinner front post. All I can say is WOW. It's a huge improvement over a bead. At 50 yards my first group was 3/4". The only thing is my pet load shot so low I had to file the blade waaaay down. In fact I filed the post so much I got down into the radius at the base so now my post is wider than I like and real stubby. I know I can just crank up the peep sight, but I don't like having it stick way up. It tends to snag small branches that way. The question is what are my alternatives? Is there a lower base available? Or am I going to have to stick that tiny blade in the mill and do some trimming on the sides to get it back where it started?

I like the XS white post front site on my T4, goes good with the XS ghost ring on the back.
