My .25-06 prefers the lighter bullets.
I use IMR 4064 with 75 grain Hornady Vmax bullets.
I use IMR 4350 with 85-87 grain bullets.
Every single combo i've tried in my rifle with the 120's has been disappointing for me.
My rifle will shoot .5-.7 MOA with light bullets, but shoots about 2 1/2-3" with the 120's.
It's suppose to have the 1/10 twist too. I can't explain it, but I've accepted my rifle's shortcomings, because it shoots really great with the lighter bullets. :)

BTW, the charge weights that work in my rifle are:
50.0 grains IMR 4064 with the 75 grain bullets. (3700-3800 fps)
52.5 grains IMR 4350 with the 87 grainers. (3400-3500 fps)

I don't have a Savage but my Browning 25-06's favorite is a 100gr Sierra Pro-Hunter over 54 grs IMR4831. IT'S A MAX LOAD SO DON'T START THERE!!
The rest of the load is Winchester cases and CCI 200 primers and set for .010 bullet jump.

One of the reasons many of us handload is the search for what works good. Rifles can be very individual in what each likes. Even two identical rifles from the same maker can prefer a different bullet and load. Finding that is a research project that many of us never quit looking for.
Check out our Load Swap section at the top of the page.

I load up 50.5 grains of RE22 behind a 115 Grain Nosler Ballistic tip (.5 grain below max) for .333" groups (R-P case, Rem 9 1/2 primer)
52.0 Grains of AA3100 gets me .75" groups with a 110 Grain Nosler Accubond.
My gun (Ruger M77MKII 1-9.5" 24" barrel) shoots all bullet weights very well, I have not had luck at all with Barnes TSX or the Hornady 75 grain VMax, the 75 gr SP shoots well though.

40.0gr Varget behind 117gr Sierra GK SBT. Medium-powered load for deer. For varmints, 46.0gr Varget behind 75gr Hornady SP.

52.5 IMR 4350 is that at the top end of max???
My Hornady manual lists 54.8 as max with that bullet weight.
The Hodgdon website lists 56.0 as max for that bullet weight.
Other than my .44Mag, I don't do too many max loads these days. :D

Retumbo has worked for me. The data is on the Hodgdon web site.
