Does anyone know of a site where I could get good solid information dedicated to this old Russian round?
I have been turned on to the Mosin-Nagants, and purchased 2 M-44's, 1 M-38, a 91/30, and a 39 Fin. I love shooting these old guns, and use a lot of Wolf ammo. I do feel though, that I could acheive better results from handloading these rounds. I have found tons of sites dedicated to the Nagants, but none on the ammo.
Any information is always appreciated!

I haven't found much info on this round and believe its due to availability of cheap military surplus ammunition. With current pricing situation more will become available as prices spiral upward. My own information came from current reloading manuals published by Speer, Lyman, Hornady, Lapau, VitaVhouri and Sierra. Loadings tried work okay and of course are far more accurate than milsur. Also cast and have used 13.0gr of Red Dot in those loadings.

They have 36 different loads listed at the Hodgdon website.

Good luck. :)

I haven't shot the military surplus through my guns. I have heard too many bad things about them being very corrosive. Thanks for the info guys. Like I said before, all info is appreciated !

Lyman #48 manual has loads of reloading data for jacketed bullets and cast bullets a well. My M44 shoots .311 and .312 bullets your Fin may be .308 you need to slug the bores to make sure.

Good_Steward,
Reloading data is realdily available for thie cartridge. You may encounter different bore sizes between the Russian and Finnish rifles from .308" to about .314". All the best...

I've got one that has a .311 bore, and the two loads that I use are pretty decent, both shoot about 1.5-2" groups with open sights (100yds).
123g Hndy SP .310
47g IMR 3031
WLR primers
This gets about 2900fps

The other,
174g Hndy RN .312
50g WIN 760
WLR primer
2450fps.

The 123g load has a pretty mild recoil. My rifle is sporterized, but has the original barrell. I've noticed that the barrell heats up pretty quick, and after 5-6 shots you cant hardly touch it. The brass I use is reloaded S&B factory loads (which shot almost as good as my reloads). Its very thin and only good for a few reloads, and requires trimming each time. I just cant get myself to buy that Norma brass ($$$$$$).
Good luck.
