Just signed up and have a a question on a hand gun I just recieved from my uncle - passed away about a year ago. It is a Colt Match Target 22 cal (woodsman is also printed on it), Serial # MT9217. It came in what looks like original cardboard box and paper work from Colt with a round looking tool with what looks like three different type screwdriver heads on it. Looks like it has wooden grips...any one out there know anything about this type of firearm. He gave me several other firearms as well, but will keep it simple for now.
Thanks,
Mark

Welcome to the Forum!
I'm sure you will find whateever answers you look for here.
The colt woodsman is a fine .22 pistol, perhaps the best Colt ever built.
i have a series three, form 1952 that shoots like a dream.
These are links to Serials and a bit of info on the differences

m141a is right on about the Colt Match Woodsman. They are true match guns and very popular with the bullseye shooters. If yours is in original condition, keep it that way as it has collecter value. Even the box and any paperwork included will add to that value. How much? Take a look at any of the auction sites e.g. www.gunsamerica.com (http://www.gunsamerica.com) etc. for a ballpark figure. You're the best judge on whether or not the gun has wood grips but as I recall, Colt used to put plastic grips on some of them which they called Coltwood. That's a great gun that you have.

Hey Mark,
You've got a fine piece of weaponry there. I have a 1st Series Match Target Bullseye Woodsman. Mine has a ser# about 8000 less. It has the "elephant ear" grips. They're worth a pretty penny. With the box and papers, yours would make a collector do backflips.

Yes indeed, box and papers just brings the price up.
Mine has box, original bill-o-sale and instructions, and the price tag stuck to the box says sumthing like $62.74 as for the price!!!!
When i bought it back in '99, it was advertized for $899. I waited it out in the store till it hit 600 and grabbed it.
I'd rate the condition about 97%
Google colt match target woodsman, and you will get alot of info, including alot of places for collectors...
Don't let it go....
