The Hornady Lock-N-Load Overall Length Gages, e.g.
http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=570611

use a special cartridge case to measure length. The special means the primer pocket is drilled out and threaded to 5/16 - 36. This is a special thread pitch. Anyone know where to get non-standard taps? They charge $6 for the threaded cases, and I was wondering if I could make my own - just need the special tap.

Have you checked Brownells?

GMD...

You can get them here..

Think think they are around 17.00 or so for the tap.

For drill bit information use this...

"Proper size is .282-.286 diameter. Best fit is 9/32 at .2812 or "K" at .2811 or 7.2mm at .2835.
I=.2720 not a problem in a soft metal."

I have had mine for years and made quite a few cases for myself and fellow shooters.

Hope this helps...

Wow, thanx. I'd looked in McMaster Carr, and they skip right over this thread pitch.
Cost about $10 more, too.
