Hey guys,

I have recently reloaded some 223 rounds, and I get vertical scratches all the way around the entire neck after resizing. They are pretty deep, if I rub my fingnail against them, I can feel the indentations in the metal. I have cleaned the dies before, and this seems to not have any effect.
Please replay with any help to this problem.

thanks,
vanbuzen9

Sounds like dirt, grit or some debris on the case necks themselves. You may have to tumble your cases before you size them. The bad news is that if you clean the necks and still get the scratches, your dies may be damaged. Once a die is scratched, it will score every case after that, forever, unless you do something. If so, you can have them polished by the company or simply buy new dies.

That's all I can think of, too.

Sounds like dirty cases or dirty dies. All the best...

Are you using a Lee Collet Neck Die? If yes, then you are applying too much pressure on the ram. Again, if yes, this will shorten case life and the neck may split in the area where the scratch is.
