I bought this gun a while ago. I got 100 factory rounds and have used them all up. I'm starting to handload but having trouble finding info. I want to load 180grain xtpjhp. I have a few boxes laying around along with aa1680 powder. This is a dan wesson pistol and I need some info for this setup. start grains to max load. The col is 1.90 with the 180 grain hornady. I'm using rem 7 1/2 primers. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Any other loads you guys are using would also be appreciated. Thanks.

The catridge is the 357 remington maximum.

Reloder 7 and W296/H110 seem to also be good powders, data can be found on Alliant and Hodgdon websites. The COL tested in the Nosler manual is 1.990"

you can seat the 180 xtp out to the rear cannelure. 680 and 296 work best for me. very accurate gun and the 180 grain bullet is best for caliber, IMO. work up carefully from published start loads and wear good ears. small rifle primers are a must with this cartridge. I shoot 38 special out of mine occaisionally and the recoil is like 22lr. surprisingly accurate too, out to say 25 yards.

I didnt measure but I assume seating the bullet to the first cannelure, the bullet will still function in my dan wesson? I was seating the bullets to the second cannelure because of the over all length. Any ideas on start grains for the different powders with this exact bullet?

I shoot A Dan Wesson 357 Supermag with a 8" barrel using:
1)Hornady 180XTP seated to the rear cannalure (making it longer, fits in the cylinders, with room to spare).
2) 19.5 grns. H4227 (isn't made anymore, but IMR4227 will work with same charge weight).
3) Rem 7 1/2 primers.
This load groups extremely well from the DW and T/C contender, out to 200 meters. (I shoot them in IHSMA competition). I chose the 4227 powders, because I read several articles that said to steer clear of the 110/296, and 1680 powders due to excellerated forcing cone and topstrap wear, especially with lightweight bullets. I dont know if it's true, but I wanted to be on the safe side, and take thier word for it. Now I'm casting Lyman's 358627 bullet (217 grns.), and will try for good groups using "free" bullets! Good shooting.

what kind of velocity are you getting out of that load?

I have my chrono info somewhere, but for some reason 1340 fps (with 20.0 grns), comes to mind. I'll check later.
