A Phoenix fireman made a caterpillar tread wheelchair for his wife so she could join the rest of the family on outings. Had it on TV and it worked just like a little Bobcat of sorts - supposed to be able to go anywhere within reason. Don't know all the details, but you should be able to do a Google Search and find something.

I don't know if it is feasible for you but a friend of mine uses a horse to hunt from and does quite well.

I see you also live in SD. GF&P will issue permits that will allow hunting from a vehicle or ATV, if that will help.

Google up 'roll-eze' carts they sell low pressure [max 4# psig] flotation wheels as well as carts & hand trucks set up for the beach.

Several places along the NJ shore have 'beach' weel chairs constructed w/ 4 of the smaller cart wheels & a PVC frame w/ a fabric seat & back...

I've been thinking that a couple electric motors could set up w/ steering like a skid steer loader...was thinking about a walk behind, self propelled, electric cart. I'd bet a chair could be done that way too.

There is a local company working on something similar but far more advanced. Semi-independent suspension system with a very low CG that makes it more stable. They're also incorporating a rider stability, restraint & ROP system that will make it more comfortable and safer for the operator while gaining the ability to get over larger obstacles. They're due out later this year sometime, it's something I've been very interested in since I can't get around very good anymore either.

Check out this site http://www.maxatvs.com/ It may be more machine than you want but it will certainly get you out and about. I have one of the MaxIV's. Got it for hunting due to hip problems. Timber companies and state won't allow it on their property here in Oregon. I haven't been able to hunt for the past three years because of hip failure. Make sure any of the land holders where you intend to use it permit use "before" you purchase anything. Looks like I may have to sell it. Good luck.

A company makes one similar that has a rotating seat and very low pressure wide tires that was designed for use on golf courses. Can actually go across a green with no damage. Saw it at a convention last December. Do a search for golf carts + disabled and found the following: http://www.discountmobilityusa.com/adaptive_carts.htm

"No" and "No". The company doing the R&D on it may or may not be the name they'll be sold under depending on what the owner decides to do. More than likely it will become a new company so as to keep everything separate.

I used to go like a billy goat but one pop of the knee and I came crashing down one day...spent the next 14 months barely able to make it through the kitchen under my own power. Thankfully, it's eased up alot but the knee went out again two weeks ago and I landed on my back, been paying for that one ever since. :( I got the test results from the VA putting the condition of my body at that of an 83-85 year old man, considering I'm half that by the calendar, I have a personal interest in something that can help me keep going. I'll post or email when I know more about the new buggy.

I've got a friend whom either built or bought one for his wife. It's simular to a two place four wheeler and she can ride the wheel chair into it from the back. Once she locks the wheelchair in place off she goes. I'll see if I can get some info on it for you.

I'm handicapped and have a hunt from the vehicle permit, but I use my little Suzuki Samari. We have several places here where I live that I can hunt that way and no one else is allowed in on a vehicle. Did have some foot hunters in there a couple of years ago, but it's a great deal for us underpowered folks. I can still walk, but because of heart problems and leg problems am very limited on how far I can go. I don't know how many more years I'm going to be able to hunt, but I'm going if I got to crawl.

pfarm@svtv.com:

All the luck in the world to a plucky guy like yourself. May you hunt as long as you possibly can. It's the hunter instinct in all men (and women to). Never too young nor ever too old to bring home the bacon!!!

God bless and good luck in your project.:D
