I have the 1858 New Army with the cylinder conversion for 45 LC. I know the 410 is essentially the same bore and I was wondering if I could use 410 shot cups either in the 45LC brass or in the BP cylinder to shoot shot? My worry is the forcing cone will strip the cup away and let the pellets rattle on down and score my barrel. Any thoughts or ideas? Lets say hypothetically, a fellow had 4 or 5 lbs of small steel flechettes, could the same shot cup contain them or...? Would such an experiment produce amusing results? Lets also say that this hypothetical person knows that he will have to use a smokeless powder reload for the 45LC in order to get them to fit but that experiments have shown that they will. Would a few drops of wax be an appropriate medium to stick the flechettes together so they don't fall out before firing?

I'd get some of the 45 colt shot capsule's from Speer and just load them like you do bullets. They work very well in 38/357, 44 mag brass and 45 long colt brass. I use # 7.5 shot in mine for "snake loads".

I agree with the Speer shotcups. I too load them for all my revolvers, including the .45 LC and they work terrific. The thing I do different is several years ago, I bought a small bag of #12 shot, and that's what I've been loading since. The #12 really makes a nice load, and unless you've really got a snake problem, the bag lasts a long time.:)
