I'm looking for suggestions on ammo for the pistols I'll potentially be carrying.
The firearms in question are a Sig P220 45 and a Ruger Security Six in 357.
Would one of you gentlemen suggest for ammo to actually carry. The only thing I'm looking for is something that I could emulate cheaply and easily with my reloads; I'd like my practice ammo to act as close as reasonably possible to what I'll be carrying.
Thanks to everyone that helps me out here - this board is just about my top gun resource on the net.

For both calibers I recommend Speer Gold Dot ammo and reloads. The "factory" ammo is expensive but you can purchase a 20 count so you"re not out too much and have an excellent round for your personal carry weapons in the meantime. Load data for them can be found in Speer's loading manual and the bullet sizes are conventional enough that you can get close with other load data sources if you don't want to buy Speer's book.

I'll go along with mes49. I carry the Speer Gold dots and you can buy just the bullets to reload for practice.
If I were in a place where I thought I needed a handgun to avoid cashing in my Life Insurance, it would be filled with Federal Hydrashok, or Hornady XTP stuff.
Practice ammo is fairly easy to duplicate as far as Point of Aim goes, even with hard cast lead.

That's just the kind of thing I was looking for.
Thanks guys.

I love the Federal HSTs in 45 and 9 (230 and 147 grain), they don't build a 357, so I stick to Speer Gold Dots in 357 and 44 Mag (158 and 200 grain).

I go w/ Gold Dot 158's also in .357. I still carry Flat nose jacketed 230's in .45acp. Jim

I haven't seen a test on the 45 HSTs, but the 9mm HST even beat out the old reliable Golden Sabre as far as expansion and weight retention goes.
