I going to start loading for the .30 M1 carbine. I've purchased a set of carbide dies for .30 carbine. With my carbide dies for handgun calibers I don't have to lube the case when resizing. I was told by a friend that when resizing .30 carbine you must lube the cases even when using carbide dies. Is this true? Do I need to lube when using carbide dies with .30 carbine?
Also, how I purchased a Lee factory crimp die for .30 carbine. How much crimp do I need for this cartridge? The cartridges will be used in an M1 carbine.
Thanks for your help! :D

Don't remember being told to...or even remember the instruction booklet telling me to...but i did lube the cases (used a water based lube and a spray bottle) to lube them 100 at a time).
Know that the feel/effort of trying them without was enough to get me to reach for the case lube.

You don't need to, but the operation will be smoother and you'll put less stress on your press and bench if you do lube them.

The 30 Carbine is a fun gun.
I think that the cases are a little thick er then pistol cases. That's why a little lube is needed.I lube every third one.

My RCBS carbide die instructions say to lube rifle cases, but I even lube .44 Mag cases just a bit, I figure its easy enough, and there is a lower chance of damaging a case.

MAy as well add this; you're going to find out soon enough.
The case trimmer is the .30carbine's best friend. That case headspaces from the case mouth (and a bit from the taper of the case in some chambers) and just a slightly over-long case can lead to a round that "almost" chambers. Bolt is "nearly" locked, but (1) won't fire and (2) resists extraction by hand. Kind of sucks to have to work on a gun read to go "bang" from the muzzle end, so get friendly with your case trimmer and check those case lengths often.

The instructions included with my Lee carbide 30 cal Carbine resizing die recommended lubing the cases prior to resizing. I have sized cases without lubing them first and it did no harm to either the brass or the sizing die. However, it did require much more effort sizing and withdrawing the case from the die. I have a hunch this why Lee recommends lubing the cases prior to sizing. A very light coating of lube is all you need. It makes the resizing SO MUCH EASIER that I now lube all my carbine brass prior to resizing....Hope this helps. Good luck and God Bless...
