Hi, I am trying to dissemble my post-64 winchester so I can paint it(With either Gun-Kote or Lauer Gun Blue paint...anyone have a preference? I want my 94 to be my woods beater rifle, and I live in a humid part of texas, so Rust is crazy)

Anyway, My barrel will not budge, im guessing this thing was barely cleaned before I got it. Should I use something along the lines of Kroil? Or another deep penetrating oil?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Kroil is a very good penetrant in my experiance. I can't see how it would make your work any harder. Keep the parts "wet" with it for a few days and then squirt some regular gun oil on it. Wait a day, then give it another go. When it moves "just a little", add oil and move it back and wait more. Repeat as needed and be persistant.

Nice to meet ya.

OK are you wanting to take the barrel off of the action? To do this your going to need a barrel vice and action wrench designed to fit the 94 action. The barrel's on a 94 are screwed in pretty tight I understand and you can twist the 94 action out of square pretty easy without the right tools.

If you want to have it weather proof send it to Magna-Port and have it bead blasted and the electroless nickel plate. This is basically the old Armaloy and it makes it acid and rust proof. It won't chip or peel and you can have all the small parts done including the inside of the bore. It dramatically increases bore life also. It costs about as much as a standard hot blue job.

When I ran my gunshop in Alaska I had lots of guns that lived on the fishing boats plated like this to stay alive in the salt water environment.

I have decided I don't want to remove the barrel. To much hassle and risk, really for no reason. I guess the main thing is I tried to unscrew it, and it didn't budge, which pissed me off and made me want to remove it for no reason lol.

On a serious note though, has anyone had experience with Gun Kote or Lauers gun blue paint? That to me is the most pressing issue

I had my local smith re-blued everything that he could and the reciever was gun-koted or a simular product. The reciever could not be blued because it is an alloy that turns plum purple when blued. I love the look of the gloss black coating he used but I had to have it redone once allready because he did not do a good job preping and the finish was flaking off by all the screw holes and large pieces were flaking off by the loading gate. He sand blasted the the reciever and vapor de-greased it before appling the finish a second time. I have had very good results with it sence. I do not know the name of the product that he used but I do know that it is baked on if that helps. I too had a rusty rifle that cleaned up really nice and is a great woods gun. I have a williams FP sight and mounted a sling. Perfect combination for me.
