the lee product page says with their carbide dies you don't need a seperate taper crimp die
yet they of course sell the FCD and offer it in a package with the carbide dies...

so..
do you need to crimp seperately or not using the lee carbide dies?

I am just loaded up some 44 mag loads and am curious if I need to crimp them
I could of course go shoot em and see how they shoot and if the bullets unseat at all during recoil

time if precious for me and I like to do it right the first time

loads are 265g BTB WFNGCs and 17-18g of 2400 per Marshall
gun is a blackhawk hunter 7.5 stainless

thanks in advance

I think you need to crimp them but your bullet seating die should do the job just fine.

The crimping die is part of the bullet seating die in every Lee set. You seat the bullet and crimp at the same time or you can back off the crimp and seat then crimp in another step which is what I do with the bullet seating/crimping die. 44 mags or for that matter any revolver crimp die be it a factory crimp die or the die that comes with the Lee three die sets do a roll crimp that's a necessary part of a revolver crimp to keep the cases from backing out. The extra factory crimp die simply sizes the cases a second time so they will always chamber.

Lee does make a four die revolver die set that has a seperate crimping die and bullet seating die with the set. These work great in the four hole turret presses.
