Hello all,I am thinking of getting one of those electric casting pots..
I have been using a gas burner for a long time, but my loading
area is small and kind of crowded and I have to admit I am
getting a little Leary of the open flame...I see Lee make a nice
pot at a reasonable price..I can't figure out why the RCBS is so
**** expensive though...Anywaay please share your thoughts
on this with me..Thanks..

I think once you've cast with an electric pot, you will never look back and you don't have the need to contain an open flame. Get a bottom pour with enough room at the top for ladle casting and you've touched all bases. IMO, the best value pot is the 20 pound Lee Production Pot with the 4" clearance under the spout. For the price, you get a lot. I use a Lyman Mag 20 with a **** expensive RCBS Pro-Melt as backup. Bought both used, on eBay. That brought the price down a little closer to "affordable". Best wishes and hope this helps.
My Lee is 20+ years old, I couldn't even begin to guess how many pounds of lead has been through it.

I am a dip caster and have two Lee pots and a Lyman Magdipper. I like the Lee pots fine and they are a good starter pot. I really like the Lyman Magdipper. This is a good pot and worth the money.
There are several discount houses such as Midsouth Shooters Supply and F&M Distributors etc who discount the pots quite a bit.

Ideal;later renamed Lyman is as good a name in bulletmaking as any.Their product is good, their customer support is good and their prices are pretty good.

Lyman, formerly Ideal, has been in the cast bullet business before the invention of dirt. A very respected name in cast bullets and casting equipment. The Lyman Mag 20 bottom pour was my first pot and the one I still use the most.

I use the RCBS, which I've had since the mid 80's sometime. I also own the 10 lb. Lee. I went from the Lee to the RCBS because the thermal coupling between the pot and thermostat in the Lee proved inadequate and subject to error cause by changes in the breeze and air temperature. The result was temperature swings of 50 degrees or so, and very slow response to changes caused by adding more ingots to the melt.
The RCBS thermostat is far more consistent and controls far more tightly. The inconel liner really is easier to clean completely and its resistance to my many experiments with sometimes pretty nasty fluxes, has been heroic
Having said all that, my units are old enough now that designs may have changed. If someone knows better about the current Lee's or RCBS units, they should chime in.

Did I say I was a Lee fan? The Lee is the best buy for the money, but, their's lots of good pots as the guys above have said. I've been casting with the same little Lee bottom pour pot for more than 20 years.
