I'm about to start reloading for 22-250; what size primers are reccomended for that size case? I have seen small rifle, large rifle, magnum, what do most use for this case.
Thanks for the help.

Not a reccommendation, as such, but the only ones that will fit are large rifle. It is not a magnum cartridge.
The 22-250 is based on the 250 Savage case, which requires a large rifle primer. Most folks load the standard or benchrest primers, not the magnum.

+1 for large rifle, no need for magnum, you could do benchrest if you wanted, I just use CCI large rifle in mine.

I load a variety of different cartridges and years ago simply started using large rifle magnum primers in all the centerfires that require large rifle primers. Simply got tired of stocking so many different primers. I use them in the 22-250, 280 Remington and 308 along with my 8mm Rem mag and the 7mm Rem mag and the 300 win mag.
Just work up new loads like any other load. I would imagine that you could use standard primers the same way.
Small rifle primers are used in the 223 sized cases and the 22 hornet, the 17 Remington and those kind of cases. Most all the rest of the center fire rifle's need a large rifle primer. I use CCI BR-4 small bench rest primers in my 204 Ruger with great results.

I think the new speer manual suggests using large rifle magnums with slower burning powders like H380,H335,etc.

Primer-reg vs mag is determined by the powder. The relaoding manual will specify. Dont be surprised to see that loading manuals dont 'agree'.

That answers my question; thanks.

Is there adverse effects from using magnum primers when a regular one will work?
What is the difference in BR primers? Are they more or less powerful, more consistant?

Theoretically more consistant-at increased price, of course. I have read that the BR primers are made by just a few 'operators'. I guess the pop stuff is applied by a person-the more experience and concentration to task the better.

I just bought some Remington 7 1/2 Small rifle benchrest primers (by accident actually) and noticed the priming mix is a different color than the 6 1/2 regular small rifle primers. I'm hoping to get out to the range tomorrow to finally give them a try, the snow has really hampered things here.
Supposedly they are more consistent. I doubt I will tell much of a difference, as I'm shooting a factory rifle, and it is already sub MOA accurate.
Anyway, its always good practice to duplicate as many components as the manual you are using.
