I just got my son a H&R Youth .243. When you go to load it, the round goes right past the ejector, and then it won't close due to the ejector ends up traped behind the round. The only break actions I have been around were shot guns. You just drop the shell in and close the action. With this .243 you have to be very careful to insert the round just the right depth, then loads correctly.
Please tell me this is not normal.

I've got three H&R handi rifles myself in 17HMR,223,an45-70.All three of them let the cartridge go by the ejector.I don't remember one time the ejector would not let it close.Try cleaning the ejector an chamber really good. The factory oil in all of the three I bought would not let it eject until I cleaned the old oil out of it. Good Luck

If the ejector housing is dirty or it isn't working properly due to a broken lifter button spring, it can do that, clean it up and make sure the spring isn't broken.
If it's an extractor, there's a leaf spring in there that may be missing or broken too.

I had not done a good enough job of cleaning it. I just focused on making sure the bore was in good shape. There was some thick and nasty junk in the ejector notch....Thanks
This barrel is one that comes with Iron sights. is there any way to mount a see through rings, so that he can also use the iron on a quick or close shot. If you use the normal sight base, it is the same level as the sight and blocks the use of the sights.
Any ideas?
Thanks

The Ironsighter #718 see-thru mounts are made for all drilled and tapped H&Rs.

I took him out Sat. After I sighted in the scope, I gave it to him. After about 5 rounds he got a 3 shot group or about 1 1/2 inches at 100 yrds.
I think he is going to be a better shot than dad.
