Well, for me at least:rolleyes:! I finally got a 1911 back in my hands, a basic Kimber custom II. I couldn't be happier. Very tight gun, I really look forward to taking it to the range. There is just something special about a good 1911 and I feel so much better having one back in the battery again. Just thought I'd share it with some of the few folks I know that 'get it'.
:D

Nothing else like a 1911. Now you need a 10mm, 1911 to make it a matched set. ;)

Actually now what I want is the Thunder Ranch Revolver in 45acp. What a set that would be.

I HAVE the 325pd...the scandium framed gun.
It's the 4" version, and it is awsome. The recoil is very manageable with the Ahrends grips, and it is so light you forget you have it.

Everyone is soooooo afraid to shoot these guns due to the "massive" recoil....
If you can handle a snub 357, or 4 inch 44, you can shoot this. You CAN do 50 rounds easily without a broken hand.

If you get the Thunder Ranch revolver then you have to get the Les Bear Thunder Ranch combo 1911 AR15

Regarding 1911s, how do the better clones (Kimber, Springfield, etc) stack up against a bonafide Colt?
My 1911 is an interesting mix that was put together by my Dad, who was a pretty fair gunsmith. The frame's serial number puts it at 1941, but I believe the slide is an aftermarket slide - it's a Colt slide, but it has no serial number unless I just haven't looked in the right places. The trigger is most certainly aftermarket - it's lightweight and adjustable. The whole thing is tight and smooth. This one, put together out of parts, was one of Dad's favorite shooters due to how well it performed.
At some point I'd like to get another one, possibly in a different caliber than .45 ACP, and probably a clone rather than another Colt. At some point there is a Combat Commander in satin nickel in my future, but when I get that is up to my Mom.
Anyway, congrats on the Kimber - it sounds like a really nice gun.

There all pretty good Out of the under $1000 Kimber has one of the best triggers.
If you have the funds then Les baer and Wilson's have awsome triggers and great Guns. If I had to guess the Nitehawks and Ed Browns would also make excellent 1911's but haven't shoot either of those two.
mattpair that custom is a 6in right? How ya like it.

Is it a matter of how the parts are finished, or is it a matter of fit based on the overall quality?

Kimber has an over all good fit and finish They are not a Baer, Wilson, Nighthawk or some of the highends but they are the best for the money.
I would find a range that would let you rent and try some of the different 1911's find somebody in your area that is shooting 1911's and ask them if you could try it out.
