Hello ForumI did an experiment the other day and used my Lee Loader to seat the bullet instead of my Redding</ST1:p standard seating die for my 308 win. Wow, this really tightened up my groups. After a session at the range, my groups went from 1 ¼ inch to ¾ of an inch. Everything was done the same at the bench except the bullet seating. I seated to the same length also. I think I discovered a cheap inline bullet seater. Cant check bullet runout but I think that it made a difference.<O:p</O:p

WHAT! Blasphemy!

You want us to believe that everything made by Lee isn't "junk"? How can that be? Don't you read the sneers against all things Lee on the web? What is this world coming to when people start to think for themselves and try things rather than follow the loudest mouths in the room....oh, the pain of it! ;)

If you want to go a different route with a sliding sleeve seater die (say that 3 times real fast), Hornady makes the least expensive one on the market. I've seen good and bad press about them (just like everything else) but the two that I have do a good job. One is for my 45-70 and the other is a 221 Fireball. I have a mix of other dies for both cartridges and no complaints about my ammo. I have the Lee Loader for 3 of my cartridges, I'll have to look into what your saying. I haven't used them yet, my thinking was I could take them to the range and do load development on site but haven't yet done it.

You know it amazing how folks SEEM to think that if they pay 100 bucks for dies instead of 30 that they have the best thing going cause they paid BIG bucks it Has to be superior. BULL NUGGIES. I've been reloading for almost 40 years and have tried most brands and NOT ONE outdoes my el cheapo LEE stuff. I've had big buck dillon and it was crap. The only non Lee supplies I own is an old Rockchucker that I use for decapping only. I load 9mm 357mag,45acp.44mag,223,308.30-06.270,280,7x57,7mag and last but not least 45-70.. All Lee dies are used to load. Only problem I ever had was ME not putting powder in one load. IMHO

That was a classic spoof, by no means serious.

I've long been an RCBS fan, nothing but "Green" for me was my motto. Then a couple of bum greenies and i gave a couple other products a whirl. The most surprising one is my Lee Reloader press. I got it on a special offer which included the Lee loading manual.

I use it to bell case mouths, and with the Ram Prime, it's a great tool for in line priming.

I wouldn't use it to reform .338 Winchester cases for 7mm Mag, but for general loading on a budget, it works just fine. As an accessory to a heavier press, it's very handy.

I have often thought of using the lee loader to load a few 44 mag loads just as a test. It sure seems like those 1st loadings I did when I started this game were very accurate. Could just be my fond memories.

TMan - "That was a classic spoof, by no means serious." Correct

"...The most surprising one is my Lee Reloader press. I got it on a special offer which included the Lee loading manual." Me too. Found I liked that little "Reloader" press so well I bought another one! One is set up with a universal decapper (I put a hole in the bottom that drops spent caps into a pill bottle) and the other is for a Lee Auto-Prime II. Both presses have become great assets to my loading process.

jadek - "...an old Rockchucker that I use for decapping only.."

I quit using my RC for decapping because it bounced so many onto the floor! The "Reloader" has a hollow cavity in the base that catches almost all the spent primers, it works MUCH better than my RC!

Hmmmmm, the Auto Prime is what I replaced my "green" in line primer with. I was thinking about the universal decapper though.

Mr. Ranger Sir... I've noticed about every 3rd or 4th shell I have to dive for it. Hitting a cement floor kinda messes em up. I've found that bring them out a tad slow does away with the problem.

Forgive my ignorance but is the die you are refering to the collet seating die?

Gyroboy01 - please reference the post for your question, I am not real clear on what you are asking. Lee does not make a Collet Seat Die, just a Collet Neck Die.

Seat dies with a sliding sleeve get a lot of good press for keeping the bullet straight and aligned with the case neck during the seat process. I have four different manufacturers brands, they all make good ammo but if I had to pick my favorite it would be the Forster Ultraseat Die. What 30-30 man was saying is the bullet seat tool that comes with the Lee Hand Loader provides good alignment of the bullet to the case, like a sliding sleeve die.
