I have a Zeiss Conquest 3-9 x 40 #20 reticle (Z-Plex) mounted on a SAKO Model 85 (260 Rem). I find that I have to search for a clear image when I put the rifle up even a 3 power. It is mounted with "Low" Optilock rings and find them rather high mounted. Would I be better off with "Extra Low" rings or is the scope the problem?? Perhaps a diferent maker of rings will help??????

I have never experienced this problem before and I have used a lot of other scopes, Redfield, Weaver, Leupold, Burris, etc...

I guess the first question I would ask is the scope focussed for you? Most scopes have a provision for focusing the eyepiece. Next question are you a glasses wearer? I know that wearing glasses, at least in my case requires I either shoot without glasses and focus the scope for my eyes without glasses or suffer some of the problems you describe shooting with glasses.

Will lower rings allow your scope to clear the barrel. Personally I like rings that will get the scope as low as possible to the action and barrel as I'm rather short necked.

I don't have any experience with the Ziess scopes, but sure would contact them about the problem just to see what they say.

The "Conquest" is easy access focus, one of the best I have ever used. I don't wear glasses. I have a feeling that the scope is mounted too high. The SAKO mounting system is confusing in that LOW mounts are very high. I am going to try EXTRA LOW and see if that solves the problem, but they are expensive and difficult to findin Canada. I hope the next choice is right.

I have a ziess conquest and a sako, not together though
what brand of rings are you using?
warne and talley both make good ones for Sakos
is the new 85 the same setup as always?

SAKO rings, "Optilock System". New to SAKO. I may try another manufacturer if the "extra low" do not work. The "Optilock" seems to be on the heavy side and the bases are high. They are a two part set up with blocks and rings. Why I don't know because SAKO has bases built into the receiver. They are very different than the old style rings. I'm not sure they are anywhere near as good. I have a SAKO 85.
