Anybody shoot 9422's? Just for purposes of discussion, I have recently come upon two, not one, but TWO 9422 Yellow Boys, NIB, which I promptly put on layaway! :D :D Anybody know anything about these? When were they made? How many were made? What is the receiver coated with? It appears to be a steel receiver with a golden colored coating. Any responses are appreciated! :D

Welcome to the forum mudstud. Rules are simple, be nice and join in.
I haven't ever seen one, but I'm really not a Winchester kind of guy. I mostly keep to bolt guns and am kind of a Remington fan, though there is a mix in the gun safe. Did you see the new Mossberg Lever gun there coming out with. Perhaps some of our resident Winchester folks can help you out.
I shoot a CZ 452 22 bolt gun with a Weaver 2 by 10 by 40 mm scope and sure have fun with it.

Bob, well, actually, I'm not even a .22 guy, but what with a bunch of grandkids coming up, I've been on a quest recently to gather up some nice .22's for my grandkids to shoot. Hence the Yellow Boys. Other than those two, I have also gotten two other 9422's, a Marlin 39M, a CZ 452 American, a CZ 452 Scout and a Kimber K22 Classic, and, oh, a Crickett! Probably left out a couple. Myself, I am also a bolt guy. The Kimber might be mine, for awhile anyhow! :D

You moght want to go to rimfirecentral.com and go to the Winchester section and ask this question. I've shot a lot of 9422's but have not seen one of the Yellow Boys. Go there and give it a shot. Theres a lot of very knowledgable rimfire guys over there.

I've searched rimfirecentral.com, and some other forums as well, but have been able to come up with very little info on the 9422 Yellow Boys. Nothing very substantial. My dealer tells me 500 were manufactured. But then there are also 22 Mags, so maybe 500 of each were manufactured. Somewhere, someone said they were made in 2003. If any of this info is accurate, I don't know. But, it is all I have at the present time! :D

Many moons ago I had a 9422M. It was the most accurate 22 mag I've ever seen. Why I sold it I'll never know. I recently picked up a 9422 XTR and it is beyond doubt the finest 22 rifle I've ever owned. I'll never sell it. Now I've just got to find another 9422M to go with it. I've been infected with leveritis recently. Within the last two years I've picked up a 336 in 35 Rem, a 336 in 30-30, a 336 in 375 Win, a Sears 100 (94 Win) in 30-30, and the 9422 XTR. Visions of 92's and 86,s and 95,s etc etc keep me awake at night. Someone help me, is there no cure for this madness!!!!

Thank goodness, I just picked up a 94 trapper saddle ring, AE, No safety in good old 30-30. I have 3 30-30's now, I'm beginning to really like this caliber. That should hold me for a while.

You are correct Tanker. The Win. 9422 is a wonderfully crafted rifle. I also have a 9422 XTR, and sold a 9422M XTR about a month before Winchester closed its doors. Would have made quite a pair. I would like to find a 9422 w/o the checkering(old style) but they are hard to find in any kind of condition.
