Welcome to the forum. Rules are simple, be nice and join in.
63 dollars and 27 cents.
Look asking what a firearm is worth on a shooting forum is about one of the silliest things a person can do. First off were not appraisers and without being able to inspect a firearm first hand we couldn't give you an accurate price to begin with. Take it to a certified appraiser and have it appraised. Old Colts are becoming very valuable.

Hey faucettb: you probably didn't intend to come across as harsh, but it sure did.
Asking questions is how we all learn. :)

These old Colt's were chambered for the peculiar and long obsolete .41 Long Colt cartridge, not the modern .41 Magnum.

Guns like this can be very valuable in this age of collectors, most of the folks that are on a forum are here to talk about shooting, hunting, reloading and topics related to that. Were not an auction forum and most everyone's a shooter not an appraiser. No appraiser I've talked to will do an appraisal over the phone or the internet. I spent a bunch of years in the gun business and doing gun shows and I'm really not an old colt expert and that what it takes to appraise a gun like the one shown above. Heck even certain documentation can make one of the old colts worth double and triple what it's basic apprised value might be.
My answer may sound harsh, but keep in mind that most folks here would be glad to expound for hours on how to shoot, how to reload, how to hunt and how to maintain a firearm, giving a reasonable estimate of what a gun is worth from a picture is near impossible and it's also unfair to the person whom really wants to know what a gun is worth, specifically one that may be worth some real money.
My suggestion to take it to a certified appraiser is good advice and I wanted to make it apparent that advice about what a firearm may or may not be worth from a picture is basically nonsense to the poster.
If your going to sell your house are you going to ask folks on a home improvement forum the value or you going to get an appraisal from someone whom is trained and certified to do that kind of work to find out what it's really worth in the specific area you live in? I still think it's silly to ask what something as specific as a period handgun is worth on a forum, Though no offense is meant.

Appears to me that what you have is a double action 1878 Colt Frontier. This revolver was originally chambered for .32-20, .38-40, .44-40, and .45 Colt. Yours, marked Frontier-Six-Shooter should be chambered for the popular.44-40 although it's possible that it could be chambered for the .41 Long Colt. I don't believe the gun will chamber a modern .41 Magnum cartridge and even if it did, it would be sheer folly to drop the hammer on it. In fact, if everything works on it, it would not be advisable to even cycle the mechanism since the internal parts for this revolver are very delicate and spare parts are no longer available. The previous posters are correct, you should get this appraised by a qualified appraiser if you want to know what this gun is worth. In the meantime, store it in a cool, dry atmosphere as this is a real old-timer and worth some bucks.

I guess neither of you two bothered to read the long 'sticky' that Bob wrote for new members?

I am not an appraiser either, but that puppy is worth some pretty big bucks if it looks as good in person as it does in the pictures. PLEASE don't touch off a 41 Magnum in it or the value will drop dramatically. Trust me.
