It's cold, windy out, and I was bored. So I decided to try and make a paper cartridge that could be used in my Uberti Remington carbine. I just wanted to see if could do it and I have no idea if I did it right. The thing looks impressive and I think my wife thinks I am doing some kind of craft type thing now. Anyways here is what I did: I grabbed some tracing paper since there is no rolling paper here....yet. I cut about a 2 by 1.5 inch square and rolled it around the end of a sharpy marker and glued it with elmers paper glue at the seam. Then I cut the excess half inch off the end and folded it up and then glued that. So I had this little 1 and a half inch paper cup. I then dumped 24 grains of pyrodex into it and then tapped one of those cabelas wads down on top the powder. I tapped a round ball in the thing, cut off about 1/8th excess paper above the ball and then lightly glued the inside edge of the paper, cripping it to the ball. The whole thing is only about 1 inch long with the ball just bairly poking out of the paper. It fits just right in the cylinder and seems quite durable. So do any of you make these things? What do you use to make them. I don't know if using that wad was the right thing to do if in fact I had made this to shoot.

Pretty much how you make them, but some rolling papers makes it a little easier (although, if you live in a small town, buying those papers might have some drawbacks). I've used news paper....some of the originals were made with news print, as paper was in short supply.
I just made a wooden dowel. Concave at one end to help hold the ball, and slightly tapered, which makes sliding it off the dowel easier. Have made them with wads under the ball, and made them without...either way, if I'm not in a burning hurry, will still grease over the seated ball.

I know only what I've read, some time ago, about paper cartridges.
But I suggest that you try using onionskin paper. That is a favorite of paper patching people.
I also seem to recall that the paper cartridge was held together with a twist at the end of it.

tracing paper is fine but may be to thick for the spark to get thru or give a delayed ign. try a pcs of purm paper cut it just larger than the tube you made. put it on a dowel slide the tube you made over it most of the way. then put glue the edge of the tube before you slip it the rest of th e way. If yue want photos of this process email or pm me and I will take some. and send them to you . I use them in my 59 sharps.

You can go to your local newspaper and ask them if they have a roll end of the paper they use to produce the newspaper. They have plenty of it so they will probably give it to you. One roll end will last you a life time. It's great for paper cartridges. It's thin but strong.
