I just bought a used Remington 700 in .270 cal over the weekend and it already had a 2x7 Redfield scope on it. The rifle was made in 1978 so I figured the scope being a Redfield it might be the original. Anyway, I bought it with the intention of selling the scope on Ebay to get a newer scope, but plans have changed. I took it to the range yesterday and I must say I am impressed. The optics were just as clear as my nikon buckmaster. From sale right to range and the rifle and scope were putting the groups right on the money. I shot 3 different 3 shot goups under 1/2 inch at 100yds. Okay, maybe I am sarting to talk about the rifle too much. Anyway, the Redfield will be staying and the rifle, other than trigger adjustment, will be staying just as it is.
I am not familiar with the newer Redfields made offshore, but the older US made Redfields were quality made scopes. Their warranty sorta sucked compared to other US manufacturers, but that aside, I still have a couple of them mounted on 1970's era rifles.

I agree KDub, these older Redfields are quality scopes.

Another vote for the Denver made Redfields. I have an old 3x9 that seen 1000's of rounds down range on various rifles. The optics on the ones I had would rival any scope i owned including Leupolds and Nikons.

I have a Redfield 3x9 Lo-Pro-not much on eye relief(sp?), but clear and recoil proof. It is kind of a long scope, so it works well on my Browning BAR.

I have a 1980s 3-12x Redfield UltraIlluminater that had the reticle jarred loose twice by a .300 Weatherby and Redfield (Denver) repaired it twice without charge - it now resides on a .22-250 that hasn't yet jarred the reticle loose. A 1970s 2-7 Redfield served well until 3 years ago when it fogged. I had it repaired by the company (in OK?) that now repairs the old Redfields, and it is again clear, but the windage adjustment is now insufficient to remount it on the same rifle. I don't like my 3-9x Lo-Pro as well as I did the old 2-7x.

One of my favorite scopes was a old Redfield 2X7. I used it on several lever and bolt actions over the years. The recticle broke this year but the new company does not warranty the old CO built scope. It is still in my gun box. I just can't stand the idea of throwing it away.
Note the sticky at the top of this forum. It lists a couple of places that repair older scopes.
I had one of my old Redfields get a bit hazy after about 20 years of regular use, in all kinds of weather. I sent it in to have it cleaned and the nitrogen replaced. Came back good as new.
They were/are very good scopes.

Are the Redfield trackers USA made or Japan?
thanks, Rob...
Think they are made in the Philippines, but someone might correct that.

Could you tell me where would I send that scope in for repair?
thanks, Robert...

I had two Denver CO scopes repaired by Mike. They came back cleaned degassed, repaired and working great. You receive a sheet with all the details. There is a bit of a wait because as far as I know he is the only reputable Redfield repairer. Good luck, Peter.

i've got an older fixed 4x low-pro that i like, it has the friction turrets. i have a 3x9 low-pro from the 80's i'm guessing and it ain't bad but i just can't seem to get it to focus to suit me. i will say that it has held up to my 338 rather well and the click adjustments are pretty darn consistant, i just can't get warm and fuzzy about it.

Dad mounted a Redfield 3x9 var on his prairie dog sniper - a Mauser 25-06 sporter and he was deadly with that out past 300 yards. This scope was probably put on this rifle in the early 1970s. I now have this rifle and unless something happens, I plan to leave the Redfield scope right where it is.

I have a Golden 5 Star 2X7 that is 16 years old and seen a bunch of deer go down in front of it. It has always worked and is still very clear and accurate. It was my first scope that wasn't a tasco, If it ever fails I like jodum can't bear the though of ever parting with it.

I had a 2-7 widefield on my model 70 purchased in 1987. I thought it was great until I bought a new gun a few years ago and put a zeiss conquest on it. I took them both to the range and fired one after the other and suddenly felt like I was looking through smoked glass with the redfield. Have since upgraded to a Leupold on the model 70. I loved the wide field of view though and that scope never failed me!
