Has anyone shot this gun? I was just curious as to how solid this gun actually is. I was in the Wal-Mart today (ugh) and noticed the price on it was $249 and thought at first it HAD a 22 for that price :o . . . . . . anyway, I'm not looking to buy one (just bought a Tikka T3 2 wks ago) I was just caught a little off gaurd by the price. I know Mossberg shotguns have always been great guns at a wholesale price, but rifles are a bit different. Anyway, If ya have any experience with these guns lemme know!

A friend of mine bought one in 270 when they first came out. It's somewhat of a Savage Clone with the barrel attachment using a barrel nut like the Savage. This gun was produces several years earlier by someone else before Mossberg bought the tooling. The trigger broke at about 9 pounds and seemed non-adjustable til we figured out you had to slot the break away trigger adjustment screw to adjust it.
Frankly I'd buy the Stevens model before the Mossberg, their about the same price and I shoot a Mossberg Shotgun.

actually bob ur friend probably had an early edition ATR (all terrain rifle) totally different than the 4x4, because i know that the trigger sucked on those until they redid them, which happened before the 4x4 came out, but i purchased an atr in .270 and it shoots great for the price, i average less than an inch an a half groups at 100 yards, the trigger breaks on mine id say around six and a half but no creep, and it has a great recoil system on it, its really light making a great woods rifle for deer, not much to say past 200 yards short barrel doesnt help, but i got it september of 2006 and have killed 3 deer with it (every one i shot at mind you), all over 100+ yards, thats it in my picture, but itd make a great kid's rifle, somehting you can afford to have them fall on or drop, and hold steady if off-hand shot arrises, i go through a lot of brush so im not worried it looking pretty, but the stock does have nice checkering in it, and the .270 or .30-06 are calibers you can afford to shoot anything with, actually that 4-12x40 leupold cost more than the gun, but i hate a foggy scope

Your right savager, his was one of the first that came out and once we adjusted the trigger it was a good shooter. It's a little rough on the inside finishes, but for the money an OK gun.

I bought one of the marine coat 4x4's in 338 Win Mag, and am quite happy with it. i get around 1-1/2 inch groups with 250 grain partitions and sierras. i didn't need a 338 but have always liked the caliber
