Would 4.3gr. of Red Dot be okay in a .44mag. pushing a 200gr. XTP? I'm guessing maybe a tad over 700fps...just a plinking and possum on the half shell load... oh yea, CCI 300 primers. My Lee manuel says I can push a 246gr. lead pill with this recipe, wanted to run this by you guys before I make a mistake. I have some 250's from Marshall on order, so in the meantime...got a few days off...I WANNA POP SOME CAPS!

Terry,

That load seems a bit light for a XTP. I have stuck a couple of jacketed bullets in the barrel over the years.

If you want some cheap possum bullets, pick up a box of Hornady 180gr Cowboy bullets. Way less money for the pop, and they shoot really well at the low velocity end of the game.

The Red Dot is not listed in the Hornady or the Lyman for that bullet. Do you have another powder?

The Speer #14 shows 8.3 grains of Red Dot for a jacketed 200 gr bullet, thats at 1000 FPS. I wouldn't go any lower.

That's what I could see, almost sure to stick one in the barrel. Upside, at that level, you could probably get it out pretty easy.

700 is near minimum for a cast boolit
you want to be near 8-850 with a jacketed

Lyman 48th has a Red Dot load from 5.5 to 6.3gr., at 776fps. so I loaded some at 6.0 gr. I have H110 and 2400 on hand.

Terry,

I looked again. I don't see a Red Dot load for the 200 XTP in the Lyman 48th. One of us is missing something. There is a 44 Special load listed at the dosage you indicated.
