Got my first hand gun a CZ 75 SP-01, my question relates to storage of the gun. I was told by my gun dealer it is a good idea to leave the gun in its plastic bag when inside the padded plastic container to ensure no oil leeches out. Does the foam really do this or is it ok to just lay the gun on the foam. Every time I remove the gun from the plastic I have to wipe it down. What is the best way to store my firearm is my question?

Greasy inside the plastic bag is OK. Sudden temperature changes can cause moisture to condense inside the bag, but for stable temp. storage (like inside your home) it will work.

Yes..the foam lis absorbant, and it will not only suck in the oil, will discolor and "rot" the foam.

For short term (few days to a week) storage, will just lube the outside of the gun, wrap it in a silicon cloth, and put it away. (Sometimes i use a silicon sprayed CLEAN sock...same idea).

A lot depends on your location.I live in an area with no extreme damp weather conditions. My guns are kept in the den, under good conditions.
I just wipe them down with a rag saturated with Rig,after handling them.
Come to think of it;thanks. My HiStandard pistol has been stored in my pistol case, with a foam lining, for years. At the annual cleaning, last month,it was fine. The Rig coating worked. However,it costs nothing to place a sheat of plastic under it.I'll do that later this morning.

I have a room dedicated STRICTLY to my guns, reloading, and archery equipment. My guns are stored in gun safes with silicone impregnated gun socks, and I also keep a dehumidifier running constantly in this room. The only time I store my guns in a padded case is for transportation. I think the dehumidifier is a great idea if you have a gun room, especially if you store powder in there.

By the way, that CZ you picked up is a fine weapon. Great first gun!

I store my long guns in the flannel sock type cases to avoid nicks and dings in and out of the storage cabinets, (I have Homak steel cabinets in a under the stairs in a flame/access resistant structure, with a steel security door to the closet). Handguns go into lightly padded cases with a canvas exterior.

I've never had rust problems storing guns this way over the last 20 years or so.

Well thanks all for the good insight i live .01 miles from a bay and it is really humid in my apt year round so I think ill be storing it in just the foam, and im going to have to invest in a sock as well and just keep it well oiled.

I store mine in racks on shelves in my gun safe. Alabama has high humidity, so I wipe them down good and check them on a regular basis. (A humidifier also helps)
Nobody wants a 'Patina' of rust on 'Ole thumb buster', or dads old Fox double.
I believe in regular maintaince on my guns. For that matter I believe in regular maintaince for all my equipment.
