Anyone know a good website to find the value of a gun. Not for sale but I think I may need to raise my insurance coverage.

Everytime that I try to find that it ends up being a "pay" site. I finally came across a blue book gun value by going to Google Books. Just go to Google's main website and look in "more" options. Go to google books and type in 'blue book gun values'. It comes up in PDF format and takes awhile to navigate, but it's all I found for free.

Doc you might want to think about getting a real appraisal of the value of your guns. It doesn't take long to fill a safe with valuable guns and the price of having someone set a proper value on your collection isn't much compared to guessing and getting a loss that really undervalues what you own.

If you want true market value, log on to gun broker, auction arms, guns america, etc. and flag as many models that are similar to what you have. When the auctions end, check the sales price and you'll get an idea of what they are worth. Unless you have something really rare, it should be a good guideline. The blue book is usually way off. Dealers will use it more to buy than to sell, so what does that tell you?

It is not too difficult to get an approximate idea of the replacement value of your guns. Dealers buy at wholesale and sell at retail so those numbers are all over the place. Gunowners often think that their guns are worth a fortune despite the condition. Cabelas Gun Library prices are fine for those who enjoy good fiction. The websites can come up with sale prices that are sometimes unbelieveable and do not reflect the gun market around here. My recommendation would be to shop around for some idea of current prices and use the NRA grading scale on your firearms. All the best...
