I purchased a used sharps replica, 45-70 Gov't. The barrel is 27" + The Name AB. Gardone
VT is stamped on the barrel also says made in italy. Does anybody know about this rifle.
What kind of cup pressures are acceptable and safe. I purchased some 400 gr jacketed remington bullets to reload and am having some problems finding powder and loads, I looking for lighter loads and velocities, maybe even subsonic. Help!! Thanks,

For what you want, would look for loads listed as safe for trapdoors....your modern rifle can take a bit more (but not Marlin level loads) but no real reason to push things too far.

Lead would be better for real slow loads (sub-sonic to 1200fps)..stick a jacketed bullet in the bore and it's a bit of work to get it out without damaging the rifle...stick a lead bullet, and generally it's easier to remove.

This should do it: Just scroll on down to 45-70 Trapdoor:
