going to firelap my 92 rossi .357 and wondering what i can load that will get btb lapping slugs out the barrel and not much further. don't really want to start too low and get one stuck....

barrel is 26" ss and the powder is 2400 alliant and the primers cci small pistol magnum. didn't weigh any bullets; they are whatever marshall sends out in the kit.

could go with the win 231 if that would be a better choice for any reason....? just got a can of 2400 to start working up some rounds for the range. the gun is new and i have not fired it yet. thanks, don e.

I have used 2.8 grains of WW231 before with a 158 grain bullet. It was in a .38 special case from my 14" T/C barrel. My intent was to make a super low recoil round and I never had one stick.

2400 would not be suitable for a project like this.

I would feel confident recommending a 3 grain charge of WW231 "just in case".

I remember chronographing my loads and they were in the low 700fps range.

2400 would not be suitable for a project like this.

And most, if not all of the slower powders will also not be suitable. Some will not burn correctly, and some will demonstrate unpredictable swings in pressure, from dud to scary.

I'd go with a minimum listed load of Bullseye or Redot, 'cause it's what I have. The faster powders are more predictable at the low end, and the flake powders are more predictable than the extruded powders are more predictable than the ball powders, in my experience.

But minimum loads should be considered minimum in most cases, and over many years, I've learned the hard way that the ballistics guys established that minimum for a reason.
